BMW in Geneva International Motor Show | BMW X2 and X4

BMW X2

Positioned right between the X1 and X3 is their latest offering, the BMW X2. Now this is the smallest kid in the block, the overhangs are left under the BMW X1 and it’s also shorter in height but visually looks a lot wider and a lot meaner. BMW says they have favoured aesthetics over practicality, and it will give a sportier driving experience.

Now the silhouette of the car blurs the line between data for SUV and Coupe. It has got these huge 20 inch allow wheels, the front bumpers get a hexagonal visual treatment. It has got all LED headlamps and for the first time on a BMW X model it has a BMW insignia on the seat pillar.

Now the dash of the car is identical to that of the BMW X1 and on the interior you can choose from the variety of material from fabrics to leather. There’s also a choice of highlights than could match the exterior body colour. The roof is fully panoramic with an optional 8.8 inch touchscreen infotainment system. The boot space provided is 470 litres, 25 litres lesser than X1 which is not generous. There are 3 engine options to choose from. A 2.0L petrol giving 190 BHP and two diesel engines producing 190 BHP and 230 BHP. The petrol is going to be a Front Wheel Drive like the 2016 BMW X1. While the Diesel’s are going to be Rear Wheel Drive cars.

BMW X4

Ever had the dilemma of deciding between the SUV or a Coupe, well how about SAC or Sports Activity Coupe. Well that is what BMW is calling their latest X4 here at the Geneva International Motor Show. So what really are these SAC’s, well they are built to give you a feel of a SUV and drive like a Coupe. Most of the time they are not particularly good at either of them, but people seems to like them. When you look at the car, it’s going to remind you of BMW X6.

It is built on the X3, so it’s similar in proportion but the much larger grill in the front and a totally redesigned back gives it a very distinctive personality. The X4 runs 18 inch trims on the base variant and goes all the way up to 20 inches on M40I and the M40D variants. On the inside it’s going to remind you of the X3. The dash like any other BMW is tilted towards the driver. Gets a 6.5 inch infotainment unit and an optional professional package that gives it a massive 10.2 inch screen. There are four ways you can talk to it. Use the Eye-Drive Control, use it as a Touchscreen, talk to it or use Gestures.

It also comes with a fancy key called the BMW display key like on the X3, the 5-series and the 7-series. This one lets you lock the car, check the fuel range and preheat or pre-cool the car before entering it. Unlike the 5 or 7 series you can’t use it to park the car. Because of the coupe styling don’t expect it to be very generous on the space. But what it loses in space, it makes up in the styling.

Now internationally the BMW offers a total of 7 different engine options. 3 petrol and 4 diesels. All engine options comes with an eight speed automatic gearbox and 4 Wheel Drive as standard. The 20D Diesel engine produces a total of 187 BHP and 400 NM of torque. The M40I, Inline 6 cylinder petrol engine produces 355 BHP and 500 NM of torque. The M40D diesel engine produces 322 BHP and 680 NM of torque. Which is going to put the car 0-100 in less than 5 seconds. You also have the M-sport package with active suspension giving it the better cornering ability. The expected price of the BMW X4 is between 75-80 Lakh Rupees.
